The other is the amphibole asbestos , which includes the blue asbestos crocidolite and the brown asbestos amosite. Although today chrysotile is the only type used commercially, the legacy of past use of amphibole asbestos remains.
Today, only one type of asbestos is offered: chrysotile. In addition, the industry now only markets dense and non-friable materials in which the chrysotile fibre is encapsulated in a matrix of either cement or resin. These modern products include chrysotile -cement building materials, friction materials, gaskets and certain plastics.
Also called white asbestos , chrysotile asbestos is unique in that it has a serpentine fiber-formation (curled fibers) compared to the amphibole fiber-formation (straight, needle-like fibers) of the other five asbestos types. White asbestos , also known as chrysotile , is the most common type found on. This will afford protection to all, not just the operatives carrying out the work. Materials such as asbestos insulation are more friable than materials such as asbestos cement.

Asbestosis is a serious long-term lung condition caused by prolonged exposure to asbestos.
